Stir-fry Hairy Gourd with Chinese Vermicelli AKA 大姨妈嫁女

This is another dish with a funny name after 乱棍打死猪八戒, - 大姨妈嫁女 (loosely translated as: Elder Aunt marrying her daughter off) Funny but totally irrelevant. Can anyone enlighten me on the meaning? (Chinese Vermicelli are better known as Cellophane noodles or 粉絲 or 冬粉.)

Ingredients
400g of hairy gourd (skin removed, cut into strips about 2" long)
50g of chinese vermicelli (2 bundles)
30g of dried shrimps
3 tablespoons of soya sauce
1 tablespoon of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of white pepper

Preparation
Stir fry the dried shrimps in an oiled pan till fragrant.
Toss in the hairy gourd.
Add soya sauce, sugar, pepper and 150ml of water to the pan.
Mix well before adding in the chinese vermicelli.
Simmer for 8-10 minutes or until the hairy gourd softens.
Serve hot.
